A wine bar offering self-pours of on-tap wine, Wanderlust Wine Bar, is coming to downtown Austin, possibly as early as the end of this year. The wine bar will be located at 610 North I-35, at the corner of East Sixth and the I-35 frontage road, and is currently hosting a Kickstarter campaign to cover permitting and renovation costs. It could open as early as December of this year.
Wanderlust Wine Bar plans to offer 50 to 60 wines from around the world, with a focus on kegged wine and canned wine. It’s also pay-by-the-ounce, which allows customers to pour for themselves. The winery will eventually make its own wine using Texas grapes.
There are also plans to have a patio area with food trucks offering tapas and Mediterranean dishes.
Founder Sammy Lam, who is a sommelier, became passionate about wine while in the Semester at Sea program, and wanted to bring what he had learned back to his home state of Texas. He has previously worked at Union Wine Company, Chateau Ste. Michelle, and at The Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen.
Once work is finished, Wanderlust will be open seven days a week.
