Customer Spotlight: How North Bowl Lanes Became New England’s First Bowling Center with a Self-Pour Beer Wall

For more than 60 years, North Bowl Lanes has been a gathering place for families, friends, and league bowlers in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. In 2018, the historic 40-lane bowling center introduced an iPourIt self-pour beer wall, becoming the first bowling alley in New England to offer a self-pour beverage experience.

More than six years later, the self-pour wall continues to be a popular attraction, giving guests the opportunity to explore craft beer and cider at their own pace while adding a unique element to the bowling experience.

Why North Bowl Lanes Chose Self-Pour Technology

When the team at North Bowl began looking for ways to expand the offerings at their All Star Pub, they wanted something that would stand out and create a memorable experience for guests.

“iPourIt was the stand-out choice,” says Jessica Melville, Shift Supervisor and League Coordinator. “Having the ability to offer a new selection of craft beers and ciders, and give guests the exciting experience of being able to pour their own, was something we really wanted to explore.”

The self-pour wall allows guests to sample beers by the ounce before committing to a full glass, making it easier to try new styles and discover local breweries. This flexibility has encouraged customers to explore beverages they may not have otherwise experienced.

A Natural Fit for the Bowling Experience

Today, North Bowl’s self-pour wall features a rotating lineup of beers and ciders, including selections from local favorites such as Skyroc Brewery and Angle Tree Brewery. By using smaller sixth-barrel kegs, the team can frequently rotate seasonal offerings and keep the selection fresh.

The system has also created operational advantages for the business. During slower weekday hours when the main bar may not be open, guests can still enjoy beer service through the self-pour wall. On busy weekends, the self-pour area helps reduce wait times and gives customers quicker access to their favorite beverages.

One of Jessica’s favorite ways to introduce guests to the wall is by highlighting its flexibility:

“Guests love that they can try a small pour before committing to a full glass. They’re only paying for what they pour, and they get to explore a variety of craft beers at their own pace.”

Winning Over Bowlers and Craft Beer Fans

While some longtime league bowlers were initially unsure about the self-pour concept, enthusiasm quickly grew once customers experienced the benefits firsthand.

Craft beer fans appreciate the rotating selection and ability to sample new releases. Casual beer drinkers enjoy avoiding long bar lines and having the freedom to pour their favorite beverage when they want it.

Most importantly, guests enjoy the interactive nature of the experience.

“People love being able to be the bartender,” Jessica explains. “It’s exciting to watch customers discover new beers and get engaged with the wall.”

Six Years Later, the Self-Pour Wall Is Still Going Strong

Jessica has been part of the North Bowl family since 2010 and has witnessed firsthand how the iPourIt system has become a valued part of the business.

In a heartfelt note shared with the iPourIt team, she wrote:

“You guys are seriously AMAZING! I cannot thank you enough for all of your help with everything all these years. Here’s to another million ounces poured for years to come.”

The message reflects a partnership that has grown over more than six years of working together. Throughout that time, the self-pour wall has remained an important part of North Bowl’s beverage program and guest experience.

As North Bowl Lanes continues serving its community, the self-pour beer wall remains a popular feature for both regular league bowlers and first-time visitors. By combining local craft beverages, flexibility, and interactive service, the system continues to add something unique to the North Bowl experience.
